On the evening of September 11, the 17th World Chinese Business Conference wrapped up in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Gao Quanqing, president of the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce, announced on behalf of the organizing committee that the next conference will be held in November 2024 in Macau, China.
During the event, Lu Chengquan, president of the Malaysian Chinese Chamber of Commerce, highlighted the impressive turnout this year, which included Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at the opening ceremony. The conference featured a plenary session and several forums, with participation from senior Malaysian officials, scholars, experts, and entrepreneurs from various countries. Over 100 exhibition booths were set up, and more than 500 one-on-one project meetings took place, emphasizing the conference’s goal of bolstering global connections among Chinese businesses and its unique role in linking the international Chinese business community.
Lin Chuqin, chairman of the Thai Chinese Chamber of Commerce, noted that the conference provided clear guidance for the future of Chinese businesses amid the evolving economic landscape. He stressed the importance of unity and adhering to values such as hard work, inclusivity, mutual assistance, integrity, and ethics. Lin advocated for embracing change, innovating development models, sharing resources, and leveraging collective strengths to establish a “community of shared destiny” within Chinese businesses. He believes such collaboration will expand opportunities for engagement and promote sustainable global economic development.
Zheng Likang, Malaysia’s Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, expressed the Malaysian government’s enthusiasm for collaborating closely with the global Chinese business community to drive innovation and tackle contemporary challenges.
At the closing ceremony, Lu Chengquan officially handed over the conference flag to Cui Shichang, president of the Macau Chinese Chamber of Commerce, in preparation for the 18th World Chinese Business Conference. Cui revealed that the upcoming event will focus on the theme “Building a Community of Shared Destiny for Chinese Businesses,” aiming to gather insights from Chinese entrepreneurs to contribute to global economic recovery.
Gao also announced that the 19th World Chinese Business Conference is set for 2027, with applications opening from September 16 of this year until March 15, 2025.
