FBI identifies 400 people affected by Lockerbie bombing ahead of suspect’s US trial

An international investigation led by the FBI has identified over 400 individuals from ten different countries who lost loved ones or experienced significant emotional distress as a result of the Lockerbie bombing in 1988. This effort comes as the U.S. law enforcement agency aims to connect with those directly impacted by the tragic event ahead of the trial of a Libyan suspect scheduled for next year.

A federal court in Washington, D.C., is currently deliberating on how to facilitate remote access for the proceedings against the alleged bombmaker, Abu Agila Masud. Among the 417 individuals who participated in the FBI survey, more than 100 hailed from Scotland, with 32 respondents residing in Lockerbie itself.
