On October 22, the Guangdong Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision reported that, with the approval of the Provincial Party Committee, an investigation was launched into Liu Shaorong, the former deputy head of the Fifth Inspection Team of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, for serious violations of discipline and law.
The investigation revealed that Liu Shaorong had lost his ideals and beliefs, strayed from his original mission, displayed disloyalty to the Party, and actively resisted organizational review. He ignored the central government’s eight-point regulation, improperly accepted gifts and monetary donations, and accepted arrangements for travel that were against the rules. Furthermore, he violated organizational principles by failing to report personal matters as required and abused his power for personal gain, leveraging his official position to benefit others in areas such as project contracting, administrative approvals, and case handling, while unlawfully accepting large sums of money.
Liu Shaorong’s actions represented serious violations of the Party’s political discipline, organizational discipline, and integrity discipline. This conduct constituted a severe dereliction of duty and he is also suspected of bribery crimes. Despite the Party’s efforts to rein in such behavior after the 18th National Congress, Liu’s actions persisted, posing a serious threat with far-reaching negative consequences.
In light of these findings, the Guangdong Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection decided, after deliberation and with the approval of the Provincial Party Committee, to expel Liu Shaorong from the Party. Additionally, he will be dismissed from public office by the Guangdong Provincial Supervisory Commission, required to return his illegitimate gains, and his suspected criminal activities will be forwarded to the prosecutorial authorities for legal review and prosecution, along with the involved assets.
