In a recent strategic move to retain and motivate high-performing staff, the management of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology (BOUESTI) in Ikere-Ekiti has approved the promotion of 28 professors and 58 additional staff members from various departments. This decision reflects the university’s commitment to fostering a culture of dedication and academic excellence.
A statement from the registrar’s office indicated that the governing council’s approval came during a statutory meeting, following thorough evaluations conducted by the institution’s Appointments and Promotions Committees as part of the 2024 annual staff performance review exercise.
On September 17, 2024, the committee initially approved the promotion of 22 associate professors to the rank of professor, which was later finalized by the governing council. Additionally, based on favorable reports from external assessors, the council approved the promotion of six more associate professors, bringing the total number of newly promoted professors from BOUESTI to 28.
The newly promoted professors include Joseph Ojo Ekiran (Economics), Foyeke Omoboye Ibimilua, Babatope Andrew Ogundare, and Adeniji Olawale Aladelokun (all from Geography and Environmental Management), Olatunji Samuel Akinwumi (Religious Studies), and Rotimi Odudele (Religious Studies). Furthermore, Dr. Felicia Bosede Kehinde Fasae was elevated to the position of associate professor, resulting in a total of six new associate professors.
The council also confirmed the appointments of 76 staff members to remain until retirement age and awarded incremental credits to 816 staff for their commendable performances.
Moreover, the appointment of Oluyede Adeleke Aturamu, a professor of Agricultural Economics, as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Research), along with Joseph Ojo Ekiran as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), was ratified by the council. Both were elected by the university’s senate during its 39th statutory meeting held on July 25, 2024.
These promotions and appointments are anticipated to significantly enhance the quality of teaching, research, and administration at BOUESTI, furthering the university’s mission to advance education and knowledge.
