In celebration of its 10th anniversary, Air Peace Limited, the largest airline in West Africa, recently held its October Sport Festival, aptly named ‘October Fest.’ This unique event aimed to promote unity, camaraderie, and team spirit among employees and served as a highlight of Air Peace’s decade of excellence.
The October Fest kicked off on August 31, 2024, featuring a football tournament that included eight male teams and a novelty match with two female teams. This month-long tournament brought together Air Peace staff from various locations across the sub-Saharan region, allowing them to compete for glory and strengthen their bonds within the airline family.
The male teams included BUU Shooters, BVE Rangers, BQQ Warriors, BUO Army, BWI Wanderers, BYJ Rovers, BXG Gunners, and BQV Invaders, while the female teams were represented by the BUJ Amazons and BYF Angels.
The tournament showcased thrilling displays of skill, excitement, and sportsmanship, with fans treated to a vibrant atmosphere of pomp and pageantry. After several weeks of intense competition, the finals provided nail-biting matches that kept spectators on the edge of their seats.
In the male final, the BQQ Warriors faced the BXG Gunners in a dramatic showdown that ended in a 1-1 draw after regulation time. The match was ultimately decided by a penalty shootout, with the BXG Gunners emerging victorious and claiming the championship title. The female final was equally electrifying, featuring the BUJ Amazons against the BYF Angels, which also concluded 1-1 after regulation. The BUJ Amazons triumphed in the penalty shootout to secure their victory.
Both teams in the male category were rewarded with significant financial prizes, along with the top runners-up, while the female runners-up also enjoyed their share of accolades.
Notably in attendance was Air Peace’s CEO and Chairman, Dr. Allen Onyema, joined by members of the executive board and airline management. In his address to the press, Onyema underscored the importance of the October Fest, highlighting that it represents much more than just a football tournament.
