On September 17, Russian forces launched an attack on Pokrovsk, a city in Ukraine’s Donetsk region, which resulted in the destruction of a local bridge. As the Russian military made steady advances in eastern Ukraine, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the capture of two villages in different areas of eastern Ukraine.
According to AFP, since this summer, Russia has regularly reported significant victories in the eastern conflict zone, making continual progress toward the critical logistical hub of Pokrovsk, leading to the evacuation of thousands of residents.
The Russian Defense Ministry highlighted that Russian troops have taken control of Krasnyi Yar village, located south of Myrnograd. Myrnograd is situated relatively close to Pokrovsk.
In light of the advancing Russian forces, Ukraine has executed emergency evacuations for tens of thousands of people from both Pokrovsk and Myrnograd.
Additionally, Moscow reported that further north, Russian forces captured Nevske village, which is near the Donetsk border within the Luhansk region.
As per Reuters, the state-run TASS news agency cited the Russian Defense Ministry, confirming that the two villages now under Russian control are Krasnyi Yar in Donetsk and Nevske in Luhansk.
In a morning report shared by the Ukrainian military on the messaging app Telegram, it was noted that during the past day, Ukrainian forces successfully repelled Russian advances near Krasnyi Yar village at the front lines close to Pokrovsk. They also indicated that Russian troops were attempting to breach Ukrainian defenses around Nevske village near the Lyman front.
