Beverly Medical Chinatown Community Center 25th Anniversary Celebration

At a celebration held on October 17 at the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association in New York, VNS Health recognized its 25th anniversary of the Chinatown Community Center and the 18th anniversary of the Chinatown Senior Service. The event drew hundreds of healthcare representatives, government officials, community members, volunteers, and seniors, creating a lively atmosphere. VNS Health presented Community Leadership Awards to the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association, the Chinatown Community Center, and the oldest members and volunteers of the Chinatown Senior Service. Additionally, the organization expressed its gratitude to 19 institutions that have supported community education on palliative care.

During his speech, John Burke, Executive Vice President of VNS Health, emphasized the organization’s commitment to providing comprehensive healthcare services to the New York community since its establishment in 1893. He noted that VNS Health serves over 51,000 patients, health plan members, and clients daily, including thousands of seniors residing in the Chinatown community. Burke stated, “Our relationship with the Chinese community in New York is long-standing and invaluable. While it dates back several decades, this connection reached a new level with the establishment of the Chinatown Community Center in 1999.”

Over the past 25 years, the Chinatown Community Center has served over 300,000 clients and hosted more than 10,000 events to support the Asian community in New York City. As a result of this deepening relationship, New York State awarded VNS Health funding in 2006 to establish the Chinatown Senior Service. Since then, the program has supported over 1,400 residents, collaborating with community partners to ensure they can live comfortably and securely in their homes and neighborhoods. On the occasion of the 18th anniversary of the Chinatown Senior Service, Burke expressed appreciation for the initiatives and support from New York City and state legislators and funders, which have enabled VNS Health to provide essential services to the elderly in Chinatown.

Among the highlights of the event, 99-year-old Ng Kin Neng received recognition as the oldest member, accompanied by his caregiver, Kwong Yun Ling. VNS Health remarked on Ng’s vitality at nearly 100 years old, attributing it to regular medical check-ups, attentive care, an optimistic outlook, and a healthy diet. The celebration included various activities, such as a traditional Chinese dance performance by VNS Health’s nursing manager, Chen Li, an introduction to the latest health plan for 2025, and a lucky draw.
