Turn -winter idle fields- into -income-increasing fields- and Hunan Lingling fully promotes rapeseed planting

As the crucial autumn-winter planting season is upon us, farmers in Yongzhou’s Lingling District have been taking advantage of the sunny weather to plant rapeseed.

In Shanmupiao Village of the Youtingxu Town, farmers are busy loading their pre-cultivated rapeseed seedlings onto transplanting machines. With the roar of machinery, a skilled operator can transplant one acre of rapeseed in just over twenty minutes and cover up to 30 acres in a single day.

“Thanks to advancements in technology and beneficial government policies, we receive rapeseed seeds for free, and there are subsidies for producing more. Last year, I planted 100 acres, and this year, I’ve doubled that to 200 acres, anticipating a yield of 30,000 kilograms and an income of around 400,000 yuan,” said farmer Zhu Kai.

To ensure the success of this year’s autumn-winter planting efforts, the Lingling District has established a leadership group focused on rapeseed cultivation, developed a detailed work plan, and defined responsibilities at every level. A variety of effective measures have been implemented, such as providing free rapeseed seeds, offering subsidies to large-scale growers, and sending agricultural technicians to assist farmers directly.

The District’s Discipline Inspection and Supervision Commission has also included rapeseed planting in its current key oversight area. They are using a “room-group-field” collaborative approach to supervise the management of seedling nurseries and the distribution of free seeds, ensuring that the winter rapeseed planting proceeds in a coordinated and efficient manner. Furthermore, they are addressing issues related to negligence, inactivity, and inefficiency among officials during the planting process.

As efforts are made to transform “idle winter fields” into “income-generating fields,” Lingling aims to cultivate 255,000 acres of rapeseed, resulting in a projected yield of 37.5 million kilograms. “We will continue to strengthen agricultural technical services, provide production guidance for rapeseed, and ensure robust support measures. We are committed to effective oversight and steady advancement of this industry to enhance productivity and increase income for our villagers,” stated Chen Haiming, Deputy Director of the District Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau.
