On October 13th, the highly anticipated Halloween release, “Terrifier 3,” has made a significant impact by debuting at the top of the North American box office for both the single day and the weekend.
According to the latest box office data released by BoxOfficeMojo on October 13th, the North American weekend box office (from October 11 to 13) totaled approximately $70.67 million, marking a decrease of about 19% from the previous weekend. Alongside “Terrifier 3,” new entries like “Piece by Piece” also made their way into the top ten for the weekend.
With Halloween just around the corner, “Terrifier 3” led the pack with an opening weekend take of about $18.3 million. The low-budget horror series has seen a steady increase in box office performance since its inception, and this latest installment, which marks its return after two years, continues to be written and directed by Damien Leone. Impressively, the opening weekend earnings surpassed the total gross of the second film, and overall reactions have been positive, placing “Terrifier 3” among the more successful entries in the series. It currently holds an IMDb rating of 7.2, a Metacritic score of 61, a Rotten Tomatoes freshness rating of 78% (based on 80 reviews), and a CinemaScore of B.
Meanwhile, the biographical animated musical “Piece by Piece” debuted in fifth place with a weekend gross of approximately $3.8 million. Directed by Morgan Neville, known for his documentaries, the film tells the life story of renowned musician Pharrell Williams from a unique LEGO perspective. Audience reception has been encouraging, with an IMDb rating of 7.4, a Metacritic score of 62, a Rotten Tomatoes freshness rating of 81% (based on 78 reviews), and a CinemaScore of A.
Despite facing challenges from competing new releases and a reduction in theater screenings, DreamWorks Animation’s “The Wild Robot” witnessed a smaller drop of 28.8% in box office revenues, earning around $13.45 million over the weekend to secure the second spot on the North American box office chart. The film has grossed approximately $83.74 million in North America and over $148 million globally.
Making its comeback after five years, “Joker: Folie à Deux” has not performed as well as its predecessor. In its second weekend, with the number of theaters remaining constant, it saw an 81.3% drop in ticket sales, generating about $7.05 million, which brought it down from the top position to third place. Starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, this crime musical drama has raked in around $51.61 million in North America; when factoring in almost 70% of its earnings from international markets, the total box office stands at approximately $165 million.
The fantasy horror comedy “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” also grossed around $7.05 million over the weekend. Since its release on September 6, the film has earned approximately $276 million in North America and over $420 million globally, surpassing the action-comedy “Bad Boys: Ride or Die,” and ranking seventh on the global box office for 2024.
Looking ahead, Parker Finn’s suspenseful horror film “Smile 2” is set for release on October 18.
