The General Administration of Customs announced on October 14th that trade between mainland China and Taiwan saw a significant increase in the first nine months of this year. According to the latest statistics, imports and exports grew by 9%, while trade between mainland China and Hong Kong experienced a 10% rise.
In the first nine months of this year, the trade volume between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait reached approximately $212.436 billion. Specifically, mainland China imported around $156.7 billion from Taiwan, marking an 8.5% year-on-year increase, while it exported about $55.6 billion to Taiwan, reflecting a growth of 10.6%.
Looking specifically at September 2023, trade between mainland China and Taiwan amounted to $27.025 billion. During this month, mainland China imported roughly $20.6 billion from Taiwan and exported around $6.3 billion to the island.
Additionally, the trade figures between mainland China and Hong Kong for the first nine months showed a total trade volume of approximately $224.819 billion. Out of this, mainland China imported about $12.3 billion from Hong Kong, which is a 12.4% increase from the previous year, while exports to Hong Kong reached approximately $212.5 billion, a growth of 9.8%.
In September alone, trade between mainland China and Hong Kong stood at about $30.183 billion, with mainland China importing around $1 billion from Hong Kong and exporting approximately $29.1 billion to the region.
