Essex reality TV star Pete Wicks, currently in his sixth week on “Strictly Come Dancing,” shares that he had never danced at a wedding prior to joining the show. He and his dance partner, Jowita Przystał, put on a remarkable performance of the Rumba to Oasis’s “Don’t Look Back in Anger” last Saturday, finishing the week with 22 points—just one point ahead of competitors Punam and Gorka.
In an interview with BBC Essex, Pete reflected on his journey, expressing disbelief that he had made it this far. “I feel like I’ve been on borrowed time for the first four weeks. It’s unbelievably hard. It’s one of the hardest things I’ve ever done,” he admitted.
Interestingly, Pete revealed that he had never watched “Strictly” before becoming a contestant. He described the experience as “the steepest of learning curves possible,” adding that dancing had never been something he thought he would enjoy.
At 36 years old, he is fully embracing his time on the show and isn’t ready to go home just yet. He mentioned, “It’s mentally more tiring than it is physically, and I thought it would be the opposite. I’m aching in places that I didn’t even know could ache.”
This season, Pete has also been busy with other challenges, having participated in “Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins” earlier this year, which he humorously noted was just as challenging. “I don’t know why I keep doing these hard things,” he joked.
After a solid performance in week five, Pete and Jowita secured a third-place finish, especially following Paul Merson and Karen Hauer’s elimination. Fans can look forward to the upcoming Halloween special, set to air live on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Saturday, October 26th, at 18:25 GMT.
