On October 11, San Francisco’s Union Square saw a shocking incident when thieves drove a car through the front entrance of the Christian Dior store, making off with an undisclosed amount of luxury goods. This marks the second similar robbery at this location within a year, according to a report from the San Francisco Chronicle.
The San Francisco Police Department reported that the incident occurred around 2:42 AM. While on patrol near Post Street, officers spotted three vehicles speeding away from the recently burglarized boutique. Attempts to pursue one of the cars were aborted due to concerns about public safety, as the vehicle ran a red light.
Upon inspecting the store, police confirmed that the thieves had parked two cars in front of the building and used a third vehicle to smash through the store’s door, taking an unknown number of items before fleeing the scene. Police Chief Bill Scott stated, “This brazen act of crime cannot be tolerated in our city.” He elaborated that investigators have already gathered numerous leads based on existing evidence, including surveillance footage and automated license plate recognition technology.
A similar robbery occurred last October when thieves smashed the Dior store’s door and broke into display cases to steal merchandise. Witnesses reported that three cars were similarly parked outside at that time, and police managed to apprehend two suspects trying to escape.
Union Square had previously experienced a large-scale burglary in November 2021, when thieves made off with items from high-end retailers, including Louis Vuitton and Burberry. The police successfully thwarted break-ins at Fendi and Hermès, leading to the arrest of eight young individuals.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the October 11 robbery to call 415-575-4444 or text TIP411, starting the message with “SFPD.”
