During a routine press conference on October 16, a reporter posed a question regarding the recent announcement by the Ministry of Commerce about further actions based on the findings of a trade barrier investigation concerning Taiwan. The reporter also referenced a statement from Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council, which accused the mainland of using economic ties as a political weapon to coerce Taiwan into submission.
Spokesperson Chen Binhua responded by highlighting that the DPP authorities have long imposed restrictions on a significant number of mainland products, which has harmed the interests of relevant industries and enterprises on the mainland. He emphasized that since the release of the final conclusions of the trade barrier investigation, the DPP has not taken any meaningful steps to lift these trade restrictions. Instead, they have intensified their efforts to obstruct normal economic exchanges and cooperation across the Strait, further harming the interests of mainland enterprises and the well-being of the people. In light of the DPP’s obstinate and unrepentant attitude, he stated that the measures being considered in response to the trade barrier findings are necessary actions against their approach.
