North Korea confirmed that it had bombed the inter-Korean highway and also amended the constitution to list South Korea as an -enemy country-_1

On October 16, North Korea’s state media, KCNA, reported that the country has confirmed the destruction of sections of public railway leading to South Korea. The report indicated that a constitutional amendment has classified South Korea as a “hostile nation.”

According to the report, the Korean People’s Army carried out orders from the Central Military Commission of the Workers’ Party to demolish approximately 60 meters of road and rail connecting to South Korea in areas such as Kamhul in Gangwon Province and Dongnae-ri in the Kaesong area. This action effectively severed transportation links between the two nations.

The report described this decision as an unavoidable and legitimate measure taken in response to what it labeled as severe political and military provocations from “hostile forces,” creating a dangerous security environment that has brought tensions to the brink of war. It also highlighted that this act is part of a phased operation, with plans to permanently fortify the closed southern border.

This marks the first instance where North Korean state media has officially stated that the constitution has been amended to designate South Korea as a hostile country.
