Israeli military deploys fourth division in Lebanon ground offensive

In a recent exclusive interview, Naim Qassem, the acting leader of Hezbollah, confidently asserted that the group’s military strength remains robust, despite ongoing Israeli airstrikes that have been relentless for the past two weeks. His comments come as Israel escalates its military operations in Lebanon, deploying a fourth division to the region after conducting extensive air attacks in the southern and eastern parts of the country.

Qassem conveyed a strong sense of determination in his remarks, highlighting that Hezbollah continues to carry out significant military actions. “Our daily accomplishments are substantial, featuring hundreds of rockets and numerous drones targeting a variety of Israeli settlements and cities,” he stated. “I want to assure everyone that our capabilities are in good standing.” He acknowledged that Hezbollah has successfully replaced senior commanders, challenging Israeli claims of losses, including the presumed death of their longstanding leader, Hassan Nasrallah.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made stern statements regarding the ongoing situation, asserting that Israel is prepared for a comprehensive military response to what he terms Hezbollah’s aggression. In a video address aimed at the Lebanese people, Netanyahu called on them to liberate their country from Hezbollah’s influence to avert further devastation. “You have a chance to save Lebanon before it slips into a prolonged war,” he cautioned.

Despite Netanyahu’s assertions regarding Hezbollah’s diminished capabilities, Qassem dismissed these claims, pointing out that Israeli ground forces have made no significant progress in the conflict after a week of fighting. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reported the elimination of key Hezbollah figures, claiming to have killed Hashem Safieddine, a figure poised to succeed Nasrallah, although Hezbollah has yet to verify this information.

As violence intensifies, Qassem’s statements underscore Hezbollah’s determination to continue its operations against Israel. He referenced the rocket offensives aimed at northern Israeli cities, such as Haifa, following the deaths of militia leaders. In retaliation, Israeli airstrikes have targeted various locations in Lebanon, including strikes on areas in Beirut shortly after Qassem’s remarks.

Reports indicate significant casualties on both sides in Lebanon and Gaza as the conflict endures, with a UN official advocating for a negotiated solution to stave off further humanitarian crises. The ongoing military engagement reflects a tense and complicated situation as regional actors respond to the evolving crisis.

Amid this turmoil, Israel’s defense minister hinted at a wide array of military options against Iran and its allied forces, suggesting that Israel’s response could be extensive, particularly following a missile attack thought to be backed by Iran. As Israel consults with the United States, the situation remains precarious, with potential consequences reaching beyond the immediate conflict zone.
