In a recent interview with representatives from the Gansu Electric Power Company, we explored the exciting advancements shaping the region’s energy landscape. As of October 8, Gansu has achieved an impressive wind power capacity of 30.15 million kilowatts, making it the predominant energy source in the province. Wind power now constitutes nearly 32% of the total installed capacity.
Gansu is emerging as a frontrunner in renewable resources, ranking fourth in the nation for wind energy potential and fifth for solar energy. The province has also been designated as a national demonstration zone for the comprehensive development and utilization of new energy.
In recent years, Gansu has made significant strides in constructing large-scale wind and solar power facilities. It is home to the Jiuquan wind power base, which boasts a capacity of 10 million kilowatts, along with five additional million-kilowatt wind power bases located in Zhangye, Wuwei, Baiyin, Dingxi, and Qingyang. As of the end of September, the renewable energy capacity within the Gansu power grid has reached nearly 60 million kilowatts, with renewables now contributing to over 63% of the total installed capacity. Notably, the power generated from new energy sources has soared to 56.722 billion kilowatt-hours, representing 37.06% of Gansu’s total electricity generation.
This progress underscores Gansu’s dedication to establishing itself as a leader in renewable energy development.
