In a recent update, the U.S. President has made the decision to postpone a reception with Taoiseach Simon Harris, the Prime Minister of Ireland, which was set to take place on Wednesday in Washington, D.C. The delay is due to the approaching Hurricane Milton, which is expected to hit Florida around the same time as the event, intended to celebrate the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Ireland and the United States.
Despite the postponement of the gathering in the Rose Garden, President Biden and Taoiseach Harris will still meet in the Oval Office as planned. A spokesperson for the Taoiseach confirmed that he will continue with his full agenda during his visit to Washington.
The invitation for the reception was officially extended by President Biden during the UN General Assembly in New York. The spokesperson shared that the two leaders had a conversation on Monday night. “The President requested to go ahead with the meeting in the Oval Office on Wednesday. However, given the significant threat posed by Hurricane Milton, they mutually decided to postpone the Rose Garden reception to a later date,” the spokesperson explained. They also assured that the Taoiseach’s other scheduled activities in the capital will proceed as planned.
