On October 3, the 2024 Yonex World Junior Badminton Championships continued at the Nanchang International Sports Center in Honggutan District, showcasing the highly competitive team events. The Chinese team advanced to the semifinals after defeating Chinese Taipei with an impressive score of 110 to 74. They are set to face Malaysia in the next round.
In the opening match, Chinese player Xu Wenjing went up against Wang Peiyu from Chinese Taipei. In a thrilling 11-minute showdown, Xu clinched victory with a score of 11-8. Following her, young talent Lin Xiangyi, who was competing in multiple events, teamed up with mixed doubles partner Liu Yuanyuan and men’s doubles partner Hu Keyuan to extend China’s lead significantly. By the conclusion of the first five matches, Hu Zhe’an along with the duo of Chen Fanshu and Liu Jiayue helped maintain a solid edge, finishing the segment with China ahead 55-40.
As the sixth match got underway, Xu Wenjing raised her game even further, holding Wang Peiyu to just 4 points during her match. The mixed doubles team of Lin Xiangyi and Liu Yuanyuan pushed the score to 77-49. Despite the Chinese Taipei men’s doubles team managing to draw even at 11-11 in the eighth match, Hu Zhe’an and the pair of Chen Fanshu and Liu Jiayue steadied the ship for China. Ultimately, the Chinese team triumphed over Chinese Taipei with a final score of 110-74.
Looking ahead to their semifinal match against Malaysia, Hu Zhe’an, a men’s singles player, shared his thoughts in a post-match interview: “The Malaysian team is a strong opponent. We’ll prepare like we did before and focus on each point of the match.”
The 2024 World Junior Badminton Championships features both team and individual events, with 457 athletes from 40 countries and regions participating in this prestigious tournament.
