In a recent interview, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, expressed his enthusiastic congratulations to the newly-appointed Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko. He emphasized his strong belief in Dikko’s qualifications, noting his extensive experience in football administration, which includes roles as a marketing expert, Chairman of Nigeria’s elite league, and a foremost international match commissioner. Gusau highlighted Dikko’s past leadership as the second Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation and his involvement with FIFA and CAF committees as key factors that have equipped him for this significant role.
On Wednesday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced Dikko’s appointment as Chairman of the reintroduced National Sports Commission, which replaces the Federal Ministry of Sports Development. Gusau said, “On behalf of the NFF and the entire Nigerian football community, I extend my warmest congratulations to Mallam Shehu Dikko on this important national assignment. I am confident that his knowledge, skills, experience, dedication, temperament, diligence, and intelligence will contribute significantly to the success of the National Sports Commission.”
Reflecting on their time working together, Gusau shared, “We served on the same NFF Board for nearly eight years, and I can personally vouch for his enterprise and resourcefulness. He is a man filled with constructive and innovative ideas, and I believe the Nigeria Football Federation will collaborate closely with him to elevate our football to new levels of excellence.”
Dikko’s extensive background includes chairing various committees within the NFF, particularly in marketing and sponsorship, as well as being a member of the CAF Inter-Clubs Committee. He continues to serve as a member of the FIFA Football Stakeholders Committee.
