On October 22, the National Development and Reform Commission hosted the “Roundtable Meeting with Senior Executives of American Multinational Enterprises in China – Chongqing Session” in Chongqing.
During the event, officials from the National Development and Reform Commission discussed various recent policies aimed at stimulating economic growth, attracting foreign investment, and supporting large-scale upgrades in equipment and consumer goods through trade-in initiatives.
Chongqing officials provided insights into the region’s economic and social development, its role as a comprehensive open hub in inland China, and the construction of the New Western Land-Sea Corridor. Representatives from the American Chamber of Commerce and multinational enterprises engaged in deep interactive discussions on topics of mutual interest.
Prior to the Chongqing event, the International Department of the National Development and Reform Commission had conducted eight similar roundtable meetings in major cities across the country. Hosting this session in Chongqing brings multiple advantages: the city has a high level of openness, is positioning itself as a significant strategic support point in the new era of Western development, and possesses notable industrial resources that offer considerable growth opportunities. Furthermore, Chongqing continues to benefit from sustained policy incentives, emerging as an important driver of high-quality development.
Deputy Director Zheng Bei of the National Development and Reform Commission noted that since its establishment in April 2021, the roundtable meetings have become a vital platform for foreign enterprises to understand China’s policies and facilitate local business cooperation, yielding positive outcomes. As the construction of the New Western Land-Sea Corridor progresses, the importance of Chongqing in the region’s development and openness continues to increase, presenting a vast potential for growth. The National Development and Reform Commission will keep driving the development of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle, assisting Chongqing in becoming a key strategic support point and a comprehensive hub for inland openness. He encouraged entrepreneurs to take advantage of opportunities in Chongqing, invest in China, and build long-term ventures.
Additionally, multinational representatives participated in site visits to the Chongqing Liangjiang Collaborative Innovation Zone and the Chongqing New Energy Storage Materials and Equipment Research Institute, further exploring the region’s economic and social advancements.
