As autumn settles in, the Rob People Village scenic area, located at the edge of the Taklamakan Desert, comes alive with golden poplar trees that entice a steady stream of visitors. Many climb the rolling sand dunes, soaking in the expansive desert views at sunset, while others ride camels alongside caravan trains, or hop into off-road vehicles to experience the thrill of “surfing” across the boundless sand sea.
On the evening of October 19th, the Xinjiang Desert Tourism Promotion event and the Rob People Village Desert Culture Tourism Festival kicked off at the scenic site. The initiative aims to bridge the gap between the vast Gobi Desert and “golden mountains”, fully tapping into Xinjiang’s desert tourism potential. It also seeks to innovate desert tourism products and enhance the impact and driving force of the region’s desert tourism, gradually transforming it into a “new blue ocean” for Xinjiang tourism development.
“I tried desert off-roading and powered paragliding today. The experience was incredible, and being in the air allowed me to take in the stunning layout of the entire area,” shared Xu Jing, a visitor from Jiangsu who was visiting the desert for the first time. The diverse offerings of the Rob People Village scenic area added immense fun and surprise to her journey in Xinjiang.
As Xinjiang boasts rich desert tourism resources, desert adventures have increasingly become a hotspot in the tourism industry, particularly as the cultural and tourism sectors flourish in recent years.
To promote the prosperity and development of desert cultural tourism collaboratively, this event also saw five desert scenic areas in Xinjiang, including the Rob People Village, signing an electronic partnership agreement with attractions such as the Dream Desert Park in Alashan, Dunhuang’s Singing Sand Mountain and Crescent Spring, and the Shapotou Tourist Area in Zhongwei, Ningxia. The goal is to share resources, deepen cooperation, and uncover the potential and value of desert culture, ultimately providing visitors with a richer cultural tourism experience.
