On October 16, a conference to promote the construction of the Excellent Engineer Institute in Jiangsu Province and a seminar on training exceptional engineers in the new era were held at Nanjing University. During the event, 15 universities, including Nanjing University, Southeast University, and Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, were awarded certificates to establish Excellent Engineer Institutes in Jiangsu.
Jin Ke, the director of the Graduate Education Department at the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, shared insights into the establishment of these institutes. In April 2024, the Department, in collaboration with eight other departments, drafted and issued the “Implementation Guidelines for the Construction of Excellent Engineer Institutes in Jiangsu Province,” and in July, they selected 15 universities to build these institutes.
At the unveiling ceremony for the Nanjing University Excellent Engineer Institute, Vice President Zhou Zhihua detailed the history, foundational aspects, and future plans for the institute. He emphasized Nanjing University’s strong commitment to this initiative, noting that the university plans to enhance the organizational structure of the institute, foster industry-academia collaboration in training, develop a high-caliber mentoring team, and reinforce the synergy between academia and industry to create a unique training system for exceptional engineers.
Jiang Yong, the director of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, remarked that in recent years, the province has been continually reforming the training of master’s and doctoral engineering students, laying a solid foundation for nurturing exceptional engineers. He urged the universities establishing these institutes to work collaboratively, improve the quality of talent training, strengthen a coherent training approach, refine the certification standard system, and effectively integrate resources. This collective effort aims to innovate and lead in achieving new advancements in the training of exceptional engineers.
